Biography

Lance Bruun, is a Corpus Christi attorney and civic leader.

Lance was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 26, 1952. He attended public schools in Houston and graduated from the Westchester High School in 1970. He later attended the Citadel.

Lance is a 1974 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he majored in Finance and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He is a 1976 graduate of the University of Houston Law School where he received his Juris Doctor degree. While at the University of Houston he was admitted as a member of Phi Delta Phi, an honorary legal society, and the Order of the Barons.

Upon receiving his law degree and being admitted to the Bar, Lance began his legal career with the law firm of Lykos, Bergner & Oberwetter in Houston where his primary area of practice was oil and gas law.

Lance moved to Corpus Christi in 1978 and joined the law firm of Head, Kendrick & Head where he continued to practice oil and gas law, as well as other business law related matters. He became a partner in the firm in 1982.

In 1988, the law firm of Head & Kendrick merged with the Corpus Christi law firm of Kleberg, Dyer, Redford & Weil, and became known as Kleberg & Head. Lance became a shareholder of the new firm and practiced primarily in the areas of business and commercial litigation.

In February of 1995, Lance opened his own law office. Today he practices general law with an emphasis on business and civil litigation. Lance is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Corpus Christi Bar Association. He has served on the Corpus Christi Bar Association's Attorney-Client Relationship Committee, the New Courtroom Committee and the Assistance to Persons with Aids/Homeless Committee, the Law Day Committee, the Lawyers Assistance Committee, and he is the former Chairman of the Pro Bono Committee.

In December 2001, Lance was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve as a Director of the Texas Department of Information Resources. The Department assists state agencies in technology decisions, and directing the most appropriate uses of information resources. He served until March, 2006.

Lance is a civic and community leader who served on the Board of Trustees of the St. James Episcopal School in Corpus Christi. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board from 1987 through 1989 and Chairman from 1989 through 1992. He served as Area Chairman for the Corpus Christi Chapter of Ducks Unlimited from 1982 through 1984, and was State District Chairman from 1984 through 1986. He has been a member of the Gulf Coast Conservation Association and served as a member of the Association's Corpus Christi Executive Committee from 1983 through 1988. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Business Alliance and served on the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Alliance. Lance is also a member of the volunteer panel for Coastal Bend Legal Services and provides a significant amount of legal services to the poor on a pro bono basis. He currently serves on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and has been a Supporting Trustee of the South Texas Art Institute (the Art Museum of South Texas). Lance is a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Corpus Christi.

Lance and his wife married in 1974. Faye was formerly a middle school math teacher. She earned a Doctorate of Education from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, in August, 2004, and is now on the faculty of the College of Education at the University. They have three sons and two daughters-in-law. Bech is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas School of Law, and is an attorney in Austin. Bech's wife, Glenna, is a graduate of Texas A&M University, College Station. Dane is a graduate of the University of Texas, and the University of Houston Law School, and in attorney in Corpus Christi. Dane's wife, Janie, is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and holds a Master's Degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. Lance, Jr., is a graduate of Texas Christian University, and is currently a petroleum landman in Fort Worth. The Bruuns are members of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi, where Lance serves on the Vestry, and is also the Senior Warden of the Church.

Lance was a Republican Primary candidate for the Texas House of Representatives, District 32 in the spring of 1996, as well as a candidate for Corpus Christi City Council in the spring of 1999. He has been active in a number of local political campaigns, including serving as Manager/Treasurer of the Robert C. Pate, 28th Judicial District Court Campaign, and as Chairman of the Nueces County '96 Dole/Kemp Campaign and as Co-Chair of the '98 Nueces County Governor Bush Campaign, and as Co-Chair of the '02 Governor Rick Perry Campaign. Lance is also a former member of the State Republican Executive Committees for SD 20.
